For Doug Imhoff, a good adventure has always been about more than simply getting from one place to another.
This October, Doug will take that idea quite literally as he joins the inaugural ENCOR 1000, a road rally that combines adventure, community involvement and fundraising for a cause he believes in.
From October 8–10, 2026, Doug will take his 2008 Scion xB on the road as part of the ENCOR 1000 Tour, representing the spirit of Rotary while helping raise awareness and funds for the Sir Grandpa Foundation.
We caught up with Doug to find out what the ENCOR 1000 is all about, why he signed up, and how friends, customers, Rotarians and communities along the route can get involved.

What Exactly Is the ENCOR 1000?
Doug: ENCOR 1000 is a rally created by my friend Justin Hai to help kick off and support his new nonprofit, the Sir Grandpa Foundation.
It combines a road-trip adventure with an opportunity to raise money, create awareness and bring people together around a good cause.
The inaugural tour begins in Boulder, Colorado, and takes place October 8–10, 2026. I’ll be driving my 2008 Scion xB, which probably isn’t the first vehicle most people picture when they think of an adventure rally.
That’s part of the fun.

Why Did You Decide to Do It?
Doug: I originally joined because I wanted to help Justin get the foundation and the rally off the ground.
Then I started thinking that it could also be really cool publicity for Rotary. That’s how the idea evolved.
I’m a Rotarian, and this felt like an opportunity to connect several things I care about: helping a friend launch something meaningful, supporting a worthwhile cause, having an adventure and creating something Rotary clubs could participate in along the way.
Why the Sir Grandpa Foundation?
Doug: I like the focus of the Sir Grandpa initiatives, particularly youth and mental health.
I also like the idea of spreading kindness a little bit at a time.
That’s a simple idea, but it’s one that can have a real impact when enough people get involved.
Donations made through Doug’s ENCOR 1000 fundraising page go directly to the Sir Grandpa Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Doug does not personally handle the donated funds; contributions are credited toward his fundraising goal.
The Goal: Raise $5,000
Doug: The money supports the foundation and helps get these initiatives moving. For me, it’s also about using the rally to introduce more people to what they’re doing.
The goal for Doug’s inaugural ENCOR 1000 campaign is $5,000, and every contribution helps move that total a little closer.

There’s More Than One Way to Participate
Doug: There are a lot of ways people can help.
I’m thinking about ways to promote the rally through Rotary clubs along the route. It would be really helpful—and super cool—to have people take videos of the rally going through their town and post them on Facebook or wherever else they share things.
So while donations are certainly appreciated, participation can also be as simple as showing up, taking a photo or video, cheering the drivers on, telling someone about the event or sharing the fundraiser with your own network.

For Rotary clubs in particular, the rally creates opportunities for:
- Photos and videos as the rally passes through local communities
- Social media content clubs can share with their members and followers
- Community awareness for Rotary and its local involvement
- Supporting and sharing Doug’s fundraising campaign
- Connecting Rotarians in different communities along the route

What Are You Most Excited About?
Doug: A big part of the fun is going to be seeing how this evolves.
It’s the first ENCOR 1000, so we’re creating the story as we go. I’m excited about the road trip itself, but I’m probably even more interested in seeing how many people and Rotary clubs we can get involved along the way.
And, of course, there’s the small matter of doing all of this in a 2008 Scion xB.
Adventure Creates a Brighter Tomorrow
The ENCOR 1000 may be a road rally, but for Doug the bigger story is about what can happen around the journey.
A fundraiser can help launch a nonprofit initiative. A passing rally car can become an opportunity for a Rotary club to engage its community. A photo or social media post can introduce the cause to someone who had never heard of it before.
And a lot of small acts of participation can add up to something much larger.
That’s the idea Doug hopes people will take from the experience: spread some kindness, have a little fun and find a way to contribute.
